Pedal For Petrov
Deciding to voluntarily put yourself through hell, cycling 400 miles across two countries, about fourteen counties, lots and lots of big hills, in gale force winds, over six days, may seem like a completely crazy idea, but that's exactly what Alex Butler and Andy Smith decided to do.
It was their way of showing their support to their good friend Stilyian Petrov, who was recently diagnosed with leukaemia, and also to support all the amazing work that Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research do.
They started their journey, along with Geoff Thomas, on Tuesday at Celtic Park where they were presented with a cheque for £5,000 from the Celtic Charity Fund before being waved off by Neil Lennon.
Last night, 300 miles later, they arrived at Goodison Park, tired, achey and windswept but still in good spirits and looking forward to a rest day before the final push for home tomorrow.
The fundraising could do with a final push too. While £45,000 is impressive, and every single penny is really appreciated, it's some way off the target of £250,000.
The boys may be completely crazy, but they are also totally amazing and what they have achieved is incredible. They have worked so hard to accomplish this, so if you haven't already please show your support by donating at http://www.justgiving.com/pedalforpetrov or by texting STAN91 and the amount (e.g. STAN91 £5) to 70070.
Pedal for Petrov wristbands are available for £2 each from the clubshops at Aston Villa, Celtic and Stoke City or alternatively you can contact Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research Customer Services on 020 7504 2215.
