I don't dislike Bent...
I tweeted several weeks ago "I don't dislike Bent. I dislike that he gets so much credit for so little" and that is still very much the case, probably more so than when I originally tweeted it.
I don't hate Darren Bent, I don't know him, but a lot of what he does annoys the hell out of me and the unwarranted adoration he receives even more so. He has an incredibly one dimensional game with his skill being in scoring goals when the opportunity is handed to him on a plate. Although so far this season even this one skill appears to be somewhat lacking with missing sitters being the one thing he has probably been best at.
You could argue that it's because he isn't getting the same service he was last season from Young and Downing, and that would be true, but if he requires wingers to be able to do the one thing he's supposed to be good at, what is the point in him even playing when we have no wingers? Oh yeah, because it's in his contract... And god forbid he should actually track back and make his own opportunities or even make opportunities for others (ssh, don't mention that to him, he might faint at the prospect).
When we bought him in January, I agreed that he was probably exactly what we needed at the time, but times have changed, and the more I'm told how Bent singlehandedly saved us from relegation last season, the more cross I get. Bent is incapable of doing anything singlehandedly, except perhaps sucking up to all the companies who furnish him with free trainers and computer games whilst simultaneously failing to acknowledge the club who pay his extortionate wages and it's fans.
It's not that I dislike Bent, it's just that I wish more fans would acknowledge that he isn't our saviour around whom the rest of the team should be moulded, he did not singlehandedly save us from relegation and he couldn't give two hoots about our club. He is a mercenary who has one solitary talent to contribute to our team, and he isn't even doing that well.
