What I Want For My Birthday

Apparently I'm terrible to buy for because I never know what I want, but I really don't need anything and if I see something I want I usually just get it. Having said that I always appreciate my presents, whatever they may be, so I don't really think I'm that bad.

One thing that does make my birthday list is Pep; not necessarily as Villa manager, just wrapped up and delivered to my door will do. Seeing as both of those things are about as likely as Wayne Rooney's recent hair transplant actually looking good, I'd be happy to settle for another swarthy Spaniard.

Specifically Quique Sanchez Flores, or Kinky Florist as he is affectionately known. Having announced he was leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of May, rumours were rife in the Spanish papers and on social media sites that he might be heading to Villa Park to take over from Gerard. However in all the Ancelotti excitement and McClaren terror, his name seems to have been forgotten.

At just 46, Quique is a rare blend of youth, energy and experience, and has achieved considerable success with his previous clubs, including Champion's League qualification with Valencia, the league cup with Benfica and most recently the Europa League with Atletico. He also wears a suit very well (you have to remember that I can be quite shallow), but seriously I do like a well turned out manager. A man who takes pride in his personal appearance suggests pride and standards in other aspects of his life.

With the exception of his well publicised clashes with Forlan this season, he is widely regarded as being excellent at managing players and building good relationships within his teams, which certainly seems like something we could do with at Villa Park.

More than anything though, he would be an appointment that would excite me in a way that the prospect of Moyes, Hughes or, god forbid, McClaren completely fails to.  I want to see us playing attractive attacking football; I want to believe we can beat anyone even if we don't;  I want to believe we can win cups even if we can't; I even want to believe we can challenge for the League even if that prospect is a long way off; I just want to be excited about what the future holds for Aston Villa and Quique would do that.

So Randy if you're reading this, tomorrow is my birthday and Quique is top of my list.
