Pressure Kids - 26th May 2012

Five twenty-somethings from Tamworth completely stole the show at Jar Music’s Plug’d In Showcase. With talented musicians and a frontwoman who is easily the most watchable I have ever seen, they commanded the stage as if it were their own gig.

The vivacious Pressure Kids wowed with true showmanship, impressive musicality and real likeability. If their mission was to get everyone dancing and smiling, then they certainly succeeded.  Even as they were setting up, you could feel the excitement in the room building, as everybody surged forward, clamouring to get that bit closer to the stage.

Charlotte Lombardi is every inch the charismatic, dynamic lead singer, charming her way around the stage, daring you to take your eyes off her. Her bandmates offer the perfect support with undeniable chemistry, bouncing off one another on stage. Their sound is full of hard-hitting percussion, edgy guitar riffs while the strong bass pulses through every song. Their energy is so infectious that you can’t help but get excited.

Showcasing tracks from their self titled EP such as Blinded, which will undoubtedly be stuck in your head after hearing it, and 21, which quite frankly already sounds like a summer anthem and is best blasting from the car stereo with the windows down, alongside the increasingly recognisable Monster, with a catchy chorus and poignant lyrics, their set had everybody in the room jumping up and down. They have an impressive repertoire of feel-good guitar-driven pop with a gritty edge which was greeted with rapturous applause.

The reaction of the audience was wholly complimentary and excited, with a real buzz about where this band could be heading. Comments including “How they are not signed to a label I don’t know” and “They are just brilliant. Charlotte has such incredible stage presence and is so likeable” seemed to sum up the feelings of everybody in the room. They are definitely a name to look out for.

You can follow them on twitter @PressureKids1 and the EP is available on iTunes here.
