New England Road Trip: Lenox, MA

From Vermont we headed south to Lenox in the heart of The Berkshires, nestled in amongst the rolling Appalachian Mountains, to the historic 100 year old Cranwell Golf and Spa resort set on 380 acres. At check in I think I might have been mistaken for someone else as I was greeted with "Welcome back Miss Hickey" and it was assumed I knew where Beecher's Cottage, where we were staying, and the Mansion, where breakfast is served, were. I really wouldn't mind being a regular at all, and the only disappointment was that we were only staying one night.

Beecher's Cottage itself was beautiful, although slightly big to be called a cottage, with rocking chairs on the porch overlooking the first tee of their 18 hole championship golf course.

There was a choice of three award winning restaurants to choose from for dinner, but given that most of our clothes had been in a case for almost two weeks by this point, we opted for the more casual dining experience on the terrace of Sloane's Tavern just a short walk from the cottage as the sun set over the golf course. The food was exceptional, and it's the first time I've ever been unable to finish a salad!

As we headed to the pool at 7:30am the following morning, we stopped along the way as several keen golfers who were out early wanted to show off their putting skills to us. We had the outdoor pool to ourselves at that time of the morning and it was already promising to be a glorious day.

As we'd only really booked it as a stop off to break up the journey from Vermont to Rhode Island we didn't get a chance to use the spa, but it certainly looked impressive as we had a wander round, but sitting in the Adirondack chairs with a book watching the golfers would've been an equally relaxing way to spend the day (and I now know how to say Adirondack thanks to @ChrisSchai).
